The Plunger in the Dark

“Okay Men, and Ma’am,” Greg MacIntyre announces, “Hand out the gear.”

Crystalo dutifully hands each of the senseless trackers a flashlight or lamp.

“Let’s move,” Greg points everyone to their designated trails.

“But should we leave him alone in the dark?” Crystalo motions towards Scout.

“I’ve got a flashlight here.” Scout sticks up for himself, “And besides, I know this part of the Township Outback real well.”

Ernie tugs on Greg MacIntyre’s sleeve, “Maybe The news-chick is onto something.”

Greg rubs his chin, “Wa-al, I have had to conduct a whole lot of search and rescue operations due to him,”

“But we’ve got four trails to cover,” Scout objects.

“Well Team, we will just have to push down the three trails we cover to keep the Varmints moving ahead of us,” Greg MacIntyre figures.

“But then who gets him?” Ernie Stubs gestures a thumb toward Scout.

“Why the Young Lady does of course,” Greg macIntyre says with a slight grin, “It was her idea.”

Crystalo sighs, flips her flashlght on, takes Scout by the arm,  and starts down  her properly designated trail, Scout hears her say, “As they sometimes say, no deed of good goes unpunished.”
